When it snows do you go to work or call in?

that depends on actual current riad safety conditions, my transportation conditions/options, distance, road conditions at my destination or how they likely will change after leaving home till arriving home, and other such factors.
one place i used to live, i had a very long gravel driveway that on at least one occassion was too unsafe to drive down plus the side road it lead too being a dolid sheet of ice about 2 inches thick, even though the actual main road, visible from my front door being cleared and even mostly dry, so had to stay home. another time, same home, had been no issues all week till an overnight warm up, rain, then refreeze encased my car in a "bubble" of ice. on the otherhand, just last year, even though the truck i was driving did pretty good, i had to have my brother drive me to and from work one day because his jeep handled tge weather much better, much safer, and could get back up the small hill to turn onto the road of my home which i had already had issues with the previous few days with the truck almost not climbing it and being stuck at the bottom till weather cleared.
Just depends on how bad the roads are and how much accumulation we are suppose to get , if I look out the window and it’s bad out, my ass isn’t going to work until the roads are clear , I use to be the type of guy that would go into work no matter what and risk my life until I realized it’s not worth it unmasked my cars a few times driving on very roads for work to the point I will not do it anymore , If a job expects their employees to risk their lives going into work? That’s a job I would trade in for something else and tell them to Go Fuck themselves.
I’m in an area where negative degree snow lasts for six months. So I have no choice but still show up to work. A couple of my morning coworkers and I almost got into accidents. Just for speeding (20 mph) on black ice. So we’re not late to work, because we have to open up shop.
i always go to work lol
only thing that worries me is the shitty drivers here bc any poor weather conditions makes people here drive WAY worse whether it's storms, snow, or ice
like i mean absolute brain dead

SNOW is not what will make roads dangerous. It is ICE you have to worry about.
Yes, snow affects visibility, but so does rain. In that case, leave more time to drive and drive more slowly.
I will go into work as long as it is safe to do so. However, there is a big hill right outside my apartment complex. I cannot go down it in ice. Nobody can. I don't care how skilled you think you are. I am used to winter driving. I have an alternate route, but if it is closed, then I am forced to call out.
I would reschedule if it was outdoor work, but if I'm working indoors, it doesn't matter. We've had lots of rain recently but I was pre-wiring houses under remodeling so it didn't make a difference, and we scheduled the outside work for days when it wasn't going to rain.
It's not so much because we can't work in the rain, but because the rain will destroy the tools and gear - lots of the gear has to be kept dry to protect the connections, and the tools will rust and often need to be replaced. That's not cost-effective.
Many years ago, I was working on a project in London UK. An overnight storm left 3 inches (~7 cm) of snow on the ground, which also covered all the roads. It snows so rarely in London, they have no snow removal equipment.
I drove into work, using the driving skills I had learned growing up in Northeast US, where snow was common and learning how to drive in it was a necessity. When I got to work, almost no one was there. They all called in, saying they can't drive in the snow.
Now that I live in Southeast US, snow is very rare, but when it happens, it paralyzes road traffic. I stay home.
Long been a problem in the UK. You get a light dusting and everything grinds to a halt. Funny thing is people will battle half way across the country to visit relatives at Christmas in deep snow but won't drive 5 miles to work when there's 1 cm of snow on their driveway.
@purplepoppy It was actually kinda fun driving in the snow in London, slipping and sliding (under control, of course) past all the historic buildings, with no one else on the road. As an American, I had to remember which side of the road to stay on, but it really didn't matter.
It was 3 days before the city opened back up.
I go. I leave early as im expected to get snow plow trucks on some routes. We do get snow storms here and there so its expected on how driving should be. Im not worried about snow as much as i am other drivers who dont know how to handle the conditions
Depends on a lot of variables, how bad is the weather? How bad are the roads? Whether or not my battery died during the night because of the cold, whether or not I can even get out of my out of my drive way, whether or not I feel like dealing stuck in the road 6 times before I get to work.
It depends on how much snow, it it's 12 to 15 inches deep I work from home but anything under 12" I go in to work I only have a mile to travel to the office and the roads are usually ploughed by then. With winter tires and all wheel drive it's rarely a problem.
As for severe weather or threatening weather it’s all about safety first & when it comes to work all I have to do is pick up the phone & my time off is covered & I get paid as well as per my contract.
I work from home so I have to work regardless of snow, then again I just moved to where it snow in the last 2 years and there isn't an office near me anyway.
If you dont mind me asking, what do you do? I keep hearing people say wfh jobs are nonexistent now that covid is over
I work in IT doing demos and troubleshooting for a program that our company uses internally. I don't want to be doxxed so I won't name the company, but the company is requiring people come back to the office part time. I just don't live next to an office and have accommodations so I work from home full time.
I can work from home so I'd work. Previously had to call in as trains would stop working and couldn't get to work
if it safe to drive in the snow then you can go to work if not then stay home your important safety is the 100 percent that matters the most.
There are certain "alarms" that are set up for it, so, if they say it's at a certain alarm, then they'll say "you don't need to come in", due to travel safety. However, there's been times when i just, don't want to go in, so I'll call off. I work at home one day a week anyway, and I don't work another. I only work at the office three days a week
It depends on the road condition. If they’ve plowed them or it’s not too icy, I’d go. But if you’re not feeling safe driving, definitely call in and take the day off
I work from home. So unless I need to go into the office, I don’t usually go out in heavy snow falls.
In Michigan we don't stop because of snow unless a snow emergency has been declared. Many places of employment won't excuse your missing work due to snow, that's just the way it is.
I work t a state college. If there is snow they usually call school off. One time they called school off because the weatherman said it was going to snow and it didint.
Considering my commute and I drive a sports car that doesn’t play well with rain and snow, I’ll call out
It's pathetic and laughable how weak English speaking nations are. Snow literally stops the whole nation here in the UK. I see it's similar in usa.
Where I am from, Slovakia, this is normal and we deal with it.
There's been points where the entire town is just shut down when it snows enough.
Certain neighborhoods suck with ice control and I was snowed in when everything was normal
It depends. If I was working at the workshop or going to school, they would call us and call it off. Stay home! Stay safe! stay warm!
@Titanic1912 snow day ❄️🌨️ those Americans and their snow days off. Lol 😆
I am a workaholic. I always go to work.
We farm and work off the farm full-time in the winter months. So yeah
I think everyone needs to stay home and be safe during any winter weather even. That way, I don’t have to deal with any traffic getting to work.
Snow is common here so we go to work still.
However if they start closing bars you know its bad
When I lived in New Hampshire only when the roads were impassible.
Hahha. Laughing in Canadian..
Although the season has been pretty dry so far
We would have to have a pile of snow before I wouldn't go in to work.
I'm retired. And the side work I do I do from home. So I just drink a cup of coffee and look out the window and watch all the people sliding around.
95% of the time I go to work. The 5% when I don't is because of ice rather than snow.
obviously i at least try to go to work. snow is what winter tires are for.
I have the option to work from home soo, it doesn't apply to me.
I work in healthcare, the expectation is that I come in.
I work from home so it doesn't matter to me unless the internet is affected.
Call in because it’s not worth ruining your car
I go to work unless there's ice involved, too
My college closes when it snows
Depends how much snow.
I'm up north so snow is to be expected
No I work from home regardless.
I'm a remote worker, so I have to work.
i stay home retired lol
🤣 must be nice
I am retired, just pray the power does not go off
Depends how bad it is
I work from home.
Go to work
