Spiders do not have mandibles (jaws). They have chelicerae (fangs). This is why they don't chew their prey but, rather, suck the juices out of them.

Of the major arthropods, insects, crustaceans (shrimps, lobsters, water fleas, etc.) and myriapods (centipedes and millipedes) are all in the subphylum "Mandibulata" which means jawed animals. The spiders and other arachnids (scorpions, and mites) are in the subphylum "Chelicerata" which means fanged animals. Spiders and other chelicerates (including, interestingly, Horeshoe crabs) cannot chew like insects and other mandibulates. Find a closeup picture of the underside of a spider's head and you will see a pair of chelicerae (fangs) not jaws. The chelicerae do not move side to side or up and down like jaws. They merely deliver venom into the prey and suck the juice out.
