Why are pancakes known more as a breakfast than a dessert?

I mean, if we were to break down each word into its components, by definition, any food you eat at/for breakfast, is breakfast. You are breaking your fasting time from the night before. Some people don't care about the time of the day, they'll even devour pop tarts, strudels, or roast lamb sandwich with mint sauce for breakfast

Another theory could be that it's a dessert disguised as breakfast food to help justify eating dessert for breakfast (since it contains the word cake pan-cake)... But I think this largely depends on the base (if you can roll and stuff them, they are dessert), as well as the toppings and the ingredients you put in it.. If you slather it with maple syrup, or add chocolate chips in it, or combine it with whipped cream and fruits, it's a dessert.. Kinda like you've got savory and sweet crepes

And there's already greasy breakfast items, like bacon, I think Americans really don't care what society considers breakfast, food can always be eaten at any time, probably some fat thing to think but valid 😂

I just grew up in culture where you don't have much fat in your breakfast, at maximum it's butter or clarified butter (ghee) which is just healthy fat. Anything greasy or fried belongs to lunch or snacks.

That's good healthy culture, I grew up in a culture that like to poison their food with excess sugar and sodium even if the food doesn't require it, a piece of bread that isn't suppose to be sweet has sugar, a cake that isn't salty has sodium, that's of course not including all the chemicals I can't even pronounce that they add in there smh

A fault in Indian cuisine is that it's really carbohydrate heavy. Wheat and rice is overconsumed here and it's because a lot of fertile land was lost during British reign and rice and wheat were easy to grow and kept a person full for a lot of time and the tradition continues.

I would assume that the fact that it fills up a lot is one of the main reasons the Chinese eat a lot of rice as well, that and most likely that their land is good to grow rice

Yup, that's the thing. But for some reasons Indians eat a loads of rice.

You see an East Asian person, they'll have a small bowl of rice with loads of side dishes and protein.

You'll see a homemade plate in India, it'll have 3 gigantic scoops of rice or flatbreads and less side dishes that too only for taste, not for nutrition or something. Even if the person doesn't do a physically demanding job. Eating a salad, pasta, ramen or any other meal for lunch or dinner is considered not to be filling. Once our school served white sauce pasta for lunch and sourdough bread along with it and so many parents were enraged by how the school is not feeding kids properly.

They've always been know as a breakfast item even back when they were referred to as flapjacks, back then with maple syrup not readily available everywhere people used honey, jelly or jam with them. They're a close relative to the French crepes.

My father grew up poor and they ate pancakes for dinner with beef gravy on them.
So pancakes aren’t just for breakfast anymore 😊

Pancakes are for anytime, with maple syrup. No reason why you couldn't have a pancake for a dessert if that's what you wanted.
