I am very upset and down about this... should I be?

I bought my house in 2019 when I was 20 years old. I bought it cash and it was a fixer upper from basically the ground up. The thing is it's still not finished and it's been 5 years. It bothers me very much that I haven't finished it. Over the past 5 years I just feel like I have been really slacking and I just want to get it done and be able to live in it. I know I could've definitely focused a lot more time into doing it for sure, but I was just so focused on other things like silly hobby and etc. My main question is... how bad is it that it isn't done yet? I'm finally kicking myself in the butt now and gonna have it done within a year. Should I be putting myself down about this?

Why continue putting yourself down over it at this point? Better late than never. Yeah, pretty dumb to focus on other things but if you've gone 5 years of doing that, you obviously had good enough shelter in the meantime so there wasn't a need to rush it.

It's no big deal. Most people who buy fixer uppers are either busy working and have extra money but not enough time or when they aren't busy at work and have the time but not the money. I only buy fixer uppers and basically live in a construction zone until it's done and then I sell.

The message here is, don't buy fixer-uppers. It never works out.

Nope. It's okay. Don't beat yourself up unless you cost yourself money by procrastinating. Just get back to it. Get er done. Think of the weight of your shoulders when you finish and can stand back.
