A ceiling fan is an efficient and eco-friendly way to regulate the temperature in a room. In summer, it blows air down to keep things cooler. In winter, it circulates hot air (which rises) keeping the room warmer.

I'm from and live in Japan and we don't have such luxuries, typically! The ceiling in my home is so low that it might hit my head if we installed one. Also not dishwashers and dryers typically -- we wash dishes by hand and hang our clothes to dry.

Americans got such spacious homes! I once visited a couple's home and they were living on welfare and it's like, "Wow, you guys got a mansion! A spacious living room, a kitchen, two bedrooms -- I can do cartwheels through your house!"

I'd need to be a millionaire here, I figure, to have ceiling fans in my home -- let alone a dishwater and dryer.

Probably not a customary device here, I don't even remember the last time I saw one real ceiling fan, to me it's mainly a thing evoking the film genre below:

I have one!! And because it drives me nuts not knowing which chain to pull for the light and which one is for the fan - I bought these chain extensions that hook right onto each chain and one has a cure little fan on it and the other one has a tiny lightbulb 💡 at the bottom of the chain.

Ta Dah!! No more jerking my chain!! 🙂

Zero. I think central AC with air recuperation and floor heating are better solutions for heating and cooling than a ceiling ventilators.
I think blowing down hot air isn't a good solution in summer, it might be okay in winter but generally warm floor makes just a 18-19C warm room comfortable.

We have central air throughout the house, including basement.
One fan in the guess room down in the basement.
all came this way when we purchased our house.
We have never use the fan.

Doesn't really get hot enough here to make them worthwhile. You might occasionally see them in hotel rooms but its more a novelty than a necessity

@Iron_Man We have central AC too, and not too far north from where you are, similar temps, maybe just a bit cooler and not quite so humid. We often turn the fans on so we don't have to run the AC.

There’s plenty of fans and ACs in my childhood home. There’s one in each bedroom so that’s 5 and there’s also one in each living / main room so that’s an additional 3. So 8 total. We live in a warm climate though so we need them lol.

They don't work here. The hot air at the ceiling is meant to go OUT, but not down. So we employ ''table fans'' - they can be placed where they are needed. We have one in each room.

I have 4 of them. They are great at both keeping the place cool and at keeping the air fresh (I usually have windows open when I'm home). They can even help when set on low to circulate warm air in the winter.

Your explanation of how ceiling fans work is actually not correct. In the summertime ceiling, fans should blow air upward since cold air tends to sink. By doing this a cold air is distributed throughout the room more evenly and it actually has a cooling effect. To do this. You have to run fans counterclockwise. In the winter time, since heat tends to rise, you want to run fans clockwise in order to blow hot air down from the ceiling and distributed it at lower levels where the people are. None of this made any sense to me either until I tried it and it turns out it actually works well. It eliminated the need to turning on air conditioning or heating to some extent.
