What is the worst thing about home improvement and repairs?

Do you do your own home improvement projects and repairs? What's the worst part about it?

For me, it's spending loads of money on a tool you're only going to use once 🙄

The worst part about repairs, for me, is having to do it, in the first place.

Chances are I most likely have the tool, and depending on the job, the cost shouldn't be too horrible, hopefully. It's just the annoyance and inconvenience.

Like, damn, I had plans, but now I have to fix this stupid thing. Why'd it have to break in the first place. Pain in my ass. Especially when, during a minor repair, you discover that you have to fix something else, first, before you can even repair the thing that broke.

Case in point; I had to fix a leaking toilet a while back. No big deal, right? Just turn off the water, drain the tank, and swap the internal components. Except that's when I discovered the water shut off valve was also broken. I just never knew it, 'cause I never had to shut the water off, prior to that. SIGH. Another trip to the hardware store.

Improvements are a little different, because I can't be mad at anybody but myself, for deciding to make the improvement. I can usually forgive myself, though, once I'm finished, because it was worth it.

I do the vast majority of the household repairs, upgrades, and improvements at my house, as well as my parent's house and my girlfriend's place. The worst thing is not having enough experience so you screw something up or you don't have the necessary tools or supplies the first time around. I hate having to make multiple trips to Home Depot.

I like DIY home repair if I can manage it, but I don’t mess with plumbing or electrical things bc I know my own limitations.

as someone who spent five years renovating a place... definitely the surprise, surprise, surprise... when you thought you had to repair and improve one thing... two or three other things pop-up and want their fix too... and really need it as well, lol

if you're on a tight budget... definitely the worst thing

as for tools... you can rent, you can borrow, buy second hand and later re-sell... lol

Three bad things. Having to fix what "professionals " did to our house. Having to move into awkward positions- like sitting and kneeling recently- to do the work. Not having access to even sub-par helpers. I wish my nine year old granddaughter were here. She earned her Home Repair badge in American Heritage Girls and can outthink most of the "repair people" near us. And she can get into to tiny areas I can only dream about fixing.

Sometimes I do a project that I have never done before and I am not pleased with result. I try and fix it and make it worse. I am glad that he's i ly happened a couple of times.

I'm not incredibly handy, so, it's the cost of hiring a contractor. On a side note: My dishwasher was leaking, and I took the whole thing apart (my wife was terrified) I found the problem, a rubber seal came loose, fixed it and now its great!

Attic or crawl space. Attic can get hot AF in the summer and crawl spaces are just nasty.
