Preferably not a family member but someone who was basically a stranger to you... how was the experience?

Im financially against the ropes right now. I don't really want to get a roommate but it would really help me out right now.

Is there anything you can recommend? Having them sign some sort of lease for example?

I’ve lived with housemates (all strangers in a PG setting) for 4 years and moved to different homes during that time. I met some really nice girls, but most of my experiences weren’t that great.

I’d say it’s bearable if you don’t have to share your bedroom, but some people can be really messy. I’ve known girls who didn’t wash their dishes for 10–12 days, spent hours on calls or video chats with their boyfriends because they had little work, and were just generally lazy. Some would break things and blame others or argue constantly.

If you’re going to let a stranger into your home, set clear rules from the start— for example, like no guests after a certain time, cleaning the kitchen after use, no smoking, etc. Also, make sure to get a few months’ rent as a deposit in case they damage anything. This is important because I’ve known people who took advantage of situations—like stealing from the home when the homeowner stopped visiting because of COVID. And mind you, they stole expensive things. I’ve also seen a few girls who broke stuff but never let the property owner know.

Also, get their ID or some official document, so you know who you’re letting in. Don’t just say yes immediately... talk to them and get to know them a bit first. That way, you’ll have an idea of whether you’ll actually get along.

I don't really like it, I prefer to be alone in the room, or with someone I know.
