Seriously would you leave your child alone with a pet, a powerful dog breed?

Many of my baby pictures and toddler years is me hugging my parents' grey and white, male pitbull. He died of cancer when he was 8 years old.

Honestly, I wouldn't do the same thing as my parents did. They know better now and even said it themselves that was naive of them. I'm pregnant now and wouldn't ever leave my child with any animal (not even a cat that can scratch or bring diseases), much less a powerful breed. An animal is still an animal afterall.

I wouldn't even have a dog if I had young children.

No matter how friendly the dog, the dog could be antagonized by the child, and things could easily turn nasty.

It's better to be safe than sorry, and I would wait until the children are older, and even then I wouldn't have a powerful dog.

Yeah my parents were lucky their pitbull was used to hear crying babies and had the patience of a saint, along with a naturally mild temperament. Otherwise I wouldn't be typing here.
Or like someone else mentioned, the dog could've accidentally dropped me downstairs while playing. I guess luck was on my side.

I've never owned a dog, and my experience has been when I meet friendly dogs, that make a fuss over me, and the ones that want to bite me, chasing me down the road, when I'm riding my cycle.

Girl, before pitbulls were used in dog fighting (because they’re insanely loyal to their owners, even in the face of heinous acts they force them to do) they were nanny dogs, meaning dog breeds recommended to families with children because they’d do a good job keeping them safe and entertained. Your parents knew exactly what they were doing and pitties are the sweetest dogs on earth.

Absolutely not. The dog might actually just wanting to play, but it still could end in the toddler getting pushed down the stairs or getting rammed through a glass panel.

Exactly. I also don't like it when parents let a dog or cat lick their babies or toddlers in the face. That saliva has germs.

By now my parents recognized how naive they were. Even though their pitbull was sweet tempered, that's still like playing Russian Roulette. I guess I got lucky that dog never saw me as a prey.
