If an aggressive animal or monster was heading towards your child's direction, would you get in between? This means accepting you're literally dead meat. 100% chance your child is saved but 80-90% chance you'll die. If you survive you're going to suffer serious injuries.

Meanwhile your child is safe (as the animal or monster got distracted by you, going after you instead) and ran to safety, you're either badly injured, mauled to death or devoured. If you're a grandparent, same... would you do that for your grandchild?

Originally you're not in the creature's path. It's not after you but after your child. Help isn't going to get there fast and your only way is to distract the creature by getting in its way, making it go after you instead.

I have done it. And would repeat if needed. I rescued my then 2 years old daughter who happened to be between fighting Rottweiler and Pit Bull Terrier. The good thing is both dogs knew us, so I knew that as long as they don't crash on my daughter she is safe.

But I wouldn't hesitate even if I didn't know the dogs.

Unless I was completely paralyzed from fear which I cannot control then yes, I'd do it in a a heartbeat.

Well I don't have kids, but if I did you bet your ass I would jump in the way of anything to protect my child. Even if it meant I would die in the process. Don't care if a fucking bear is trying to attack my child, while I may be afraid of the bear myself i'm not letting it touch my kid.

Honey, in that situation, mama bear kicks in. No question. Fear melts away when your kid's in danger. I'd try everything to distract or scare away the threat, call for help if I could, but getting between them and my child is what I'd do.

i did this to save a random little old lady from a dog last year. but i won the dog fight, so that was fortunate.

That was so brave of you. Were you very scared though? Some breeds are so aggressive and strong.

yeah i thought I was about to die for real. it was the kind of dog that was closer to wolf, than domesticated canine, and pretty sure it was starving, which is why it was going after the lady, but I let it know that the meal wouldn't be worth the fight, I guess. We got lucky.

Parental instincts is so strong and innate isn't it? I'm still in HS so don't have kids yet (not even dating yet) but I want to think I would be capable of facing a Rottweiler if it was trying to attack my future child. That breed is very powerful and getting mauled to death is a horrible death.
