Do you like wonky buildings?

The photo shows Cwmyoy church in Monmouthshire and is Britains wonkiest church. Basically there was a landslide in the 12th century and someone went, "Hey, let's build a church on that." Over the years the land kept slipping and the Church walls twisted into crazy angles.

You can find wonky buildings all over the world, the result of land movement, questionable workmanship, and old age.

I like wonky buildings, it's like they're slouching in the landscape in a way that feels comfortable and sticking their finger up at conformity.

So do you like wonky buildings?

I do not and i suspect that since symmetry is at the heart of what most people find attractive, then most people don’t. At most you have a small faction of people who adopt ugly pets and fawn over ugly babies because they’re somehow pitifully adorable, and in the end it’s personality that matters most. Right?
Myself in particular, being in the building trades has given me a sharp eye and deeply held criticisms of poor design and lousy workmanship. At least i can fairly trust a building that was designed to look goofy and built to spec. I wouldn’t dare step into a structure that the very Earth is actively trying to tear down, however slowly.
I no likey wonky buildings. You can have my share. Don’t say i never gave you nuthin!

That looks not so much wonky as it looks like it was built by an amateur construction club of guys who don't know what a level, a carpenter's square, and a plumb bob are. Possibly several of the guys also suffer from Esotropia and Dyslexia.

In fairness it probably was. 12th century village churches don't get built by top class architects

Foundation is the body a building floats in ground. Lack of foundation or less sufficient one is like being too optimistic about outcome of a project. Optimism is good to show it in public, but rallying on optimism and luck is a trait of fools.

If the wonky building is structurally unsafe or is a standing code violation I don’t like it. I’m glad I don’t have OCD & I’m sure the building in your photo it would drive people insane.

A bit unsettling to me. There was an attraction known as Casa Magnetica in which the extreme tilt of the house was at such odds with it's sirroundings yhat rolling object might appear to rolling uphill... mindfuck

Not really. Some architects get really carried away with wonkiness. The Church is just a victim of Nature. We should be thankful for it being wonky
