Do You Regularly Buy Newspapers And Magazines?

I regularly buy newspapers when I go shopping for my groceries, but I've noticed fewer papers are being sold and they're more expensive.

I do subscribe to a cycling magazine, but I don't have the time to read more than one magazine.

Do you buy newspapers and magazines?

Are they too expensive, or do you not have the time to read them, or are they old technology and you have found a better way to read the news?

What is your opinion?

Today 27th February 1693 the first women's magazine was published, The Ladies Mercury.

As a student with a very limited budget, I cannot spend my hard earned cash on magazines or newspapers.

There are plenty of free online newspapers from all over the world that you can read without spending an arm or a leg on a subscription. Furthermore, most newspapers share the same news and have no longer dedicated staff that do the research by themselves unless it is for a very specific type of article.

Also, there are plenty of websites that allow you to read worldwide media and that make buying a magazine obsolete and old fashioned. Finally, reading articles online helps preventing to have to cut down trees to manufacture the paper they are printed on.

I really miss reading the newspaper! Especially the Sunday morning paper.

I had subscribed to my local newspaper 🗞️ but when COVID hit us, only 4 pages of the newspaper arrived and it said if we want to read the rest of the newspaper we had a go to an online website.

I didn't have a computer or even a cellphone at the time. That's the last time I read a newspaper.

Hi Sage, I prefer to allow GAG's to choose my MHO's for me, except when there is a definite correct answer, and if there are more than 2 correct answers I do a draw.

Not anymore. I stopped getting papers 6 years ago. I stopped buying Mad magazine when they started charging close to $4.00 an issue!! That's NOT cheap, anymore!!! And, I stopped buying National Lampoon when it became nearly impossible to find the latest issues and then they went out of business, as a magazine.
I stopped buying Newswreck and Slam when they both stopped printing after only about a dozen issues.
I stopped buying The Magic Magazine because they became WAY too expensive and way too hard to even find!!

I'm pretty sure that my most recent magazine purchase was in the early 1990s. I got free computer magazines (printed on newsprint, and which were 90% ads) occasionally into the early 2000s, but NewEgg and later Amazon made those redundant.

Once I had a computer, I had little need for print.

I can find local and national news online. I but magazines for educational content I can't find elsewhere.

Not anymore. I used to buy the Sunday newspaper, as it was full of interesting in-depth articles and supplements. There's so much on the internet nowadays, provided you listen and read with a critical mind and don't take everything for granted.

I used to subscribe to lots of magazines. Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Pickup, Van and 4 wheel drive, High Fidelity, PC Magazine, Runners World and even MAD. Many of these magazines are gone and the rest have been turned into woke garbage. Newspapers are not even good for birdcage liners.

Well, I have an NYT online subscription, sometimes The Atlantic but they seem to have lost their mojo, occasionally FT. No trees are harmed in my consumption of the news.

Not in the last 25 years when newspapers and magazines started posting all their content online for free.

No. On occasion I'll buy a special issue or something, but otherwise they take up space and waste trees... and the stories are all online.

Of course not. We will buy puzzle books (and , yes, Kappa and other publishers DO have puzzle content on-line- I use them too. The books are for the car trips. )

I have a subscription to GQ which is mailed monthly

Couple of free magazines that are monthly issues

I pick up a free paper on the bus or train if available when I use them
