I've been slowly getting back to learning French.

lol
YAS !!
Actually this gif says sacred blue which can mean...
- damn rookie
- damn bruise
So I think it's a misspelt, they probably want to say sacrebleu, in one word, which may mean something like holy molly?
@Maybe_Maybe_not I read as one word. The teacher has spoken 👏
It's also a very dated expression, so better use it ironically lol
merci cardio

My favourite French expression is "Parlez vous Anglais?"
I've taken a French course in the past, though I'm better at reading French than understanding speach, and I've learned vacation French phrases, so I can make myself understood, but if someone speaks to me, I find it difficult to understand them.
So when I go to France ( I went last year) my favourite phrase is "Parlez vous Anglais?"
My experience: French people are special... very patriotic. They want you to speak French. Maybe the are a little bit more open if they see you try to.
And never speak German... near the border they would probably not even talk English with you if you try to speak German first... don't know why. But they want us to speak French even they know German language close to the border.
Quid pro Quo...
Menage a trois...
I'm going to stop because everything sounds like it has something to do with sex.
I thought it was a pastry...
I'm not paid enough for the last part lol
"le délice matinal"
"The morning delight"
Shut up 😂
"Le Swing De L'aube"
"The Kick of the dawn"
Something like that?
lol
the swing...
these are all pastries by the way...
Pastries are fascinating.
We have one named the pope's balls
I won't joke about that one... lol
Come on, stay with me for the last story:
"The "pope’s balls" fig was, it is said, given to beggars at the exit of the midnight Mass on Christmas Eve; its name is said to come from the time of the Avignon popes, whose virility was checked upon their election due to the legend of Pope Joan.
However, the palpation of the pope’s testicles is also a legend that appeared after the legend of Pope Joan."
oh yeah... the white smoke signal
Habemus Balles!!
Si mon tonton tond ton tonton, ton tonton sera tondu.
... Nice one !
I know of an even wackier variant lol
Patin a glace. Ice skating
De pomme de terre. Potato
Un petit enfant. Infant.
Pouquoi pas. Why not?
Pardon the spelling.

Noir
As I've used it in quite a few of the titles of pieces I've written la femme en noir being one of my more favorite titles I've used.
Eat me I'm a cookie I don't know if that's French or if that just is from Steve me LOL
Plus que je connais les hommes,
moi que je t’aime mon chien.
Je time, de tout mon cour.
I don't know how to spell it
La famille.. tres importante
Autocorrect might change this... Apologies if it does
My French is very limited, I can speak almost fluently in Spanish. So it is just simple words like merci
Qu'est-ce que c'est?
I don't know how we live without an equivalent in English.
Then here is one:
What is it that it is?
Also, shortening it to "qu'est-ce" = "what is it" is probably more correct. But it's also more formal
@Maybe_Maybe_not Sure. But if you say 'what is it that it is?' then you sound like an idiot.
I'm quite sure it's not elegant yep !
Honestly I don't have any favourite French word or expression. I just like eating baguette at breakfast.
“Praise the God of all, drink the wine, and let the world be the world.”
It's been a long time, I can still do the alphabet!!
Je adore le Gateu.
Pardon my spelling I only I had one year class of French when I was 17 or 18.
"Lingerie"
= feminine underwear with ornamental lace for special occasions or, often enough, for all occasions anyway.
Je ne sais quoi
Ooh là là 😋
3 possible variants:
Ouh la la = beware, watch out
Ah la la = it's disappointing
Oh la la = oh wow
@Maybe_Maybe_not I was going for “oh wow”
There is a 4th possibility:
https://youtu.be/7wK94mIycAk?si=hw7gaE8-g29KHbIS
😂😂
Actually this one is a mispronounced case of Oh la la/Oh wow, he's saying Ew la la but it's clearly written oh la la instead !
No, correction, it's a legit case of OUH la la in this situation, while it's written OH la la for its wow effect but his OUH la la reaction is appropriate since he's realizing he got the wrong book
Merci beaucoup!
Ah? Wee wee! Don't you go wee wee in my car! 🚗
Mon Dieu. I use it irl from time to time.
"À cœur vaillant, rien d'impossible."
Ca va sans dire! Hopefully I've spelt it right.
je ne sais quoi
C'est la vie.
That's the way it is, how things are, it is... Life.
Probably a very useful expression outside of francophone borders
@Maybe_Maybe_not
Yeah, I use that saying pretty frequently here in Missouri.
I can see it being useful pretty much anywhere, even in Antarctica.
Cheers!
French Fries lol
Which are not called french fries in France, just fries
There isn't a French word I like.
Epicerie
= very small and expensive Grocery store.
Useful when the nearest supermarket is too far. Or when you want to pick up potato chips and beers at 2am.
@Maybe_Maybe_not - With an interesting pronunciation.
Phonetically it must sound like Ėpeessry I guess, that's the best I have
@Maybe_Maybe_not - eh-pissery
The Eh fits nicely, I would question the last E but it depends on regional accents, southern french accent is notorious for clearly speaking all vowels, while the northern ones tend to eat them
Bonjour 😅
@Unycorn Merci aussi
voilà….
An interestingly ambiguous case, it seems like "voilà" is used to convey something grandiose for US English, whereas for a french it's completely casual, as casual as "actually", or "in fact"
@Maybe_Maybe_not omg.. I can’t beat you with the gifs 😆
Perhaps, but I'm confident you'll turn into a master...
Eventually.
@Maybe_Maybe_not hun, I am a master 😌
Ainsi va la vie
this is how life goes
I was too late, it's already translated, but here's another one, literal:
Thus goes the life
A classic.
Voulez vous couches avec moi
I don't know many French words.
C'est la vie
Soup DuJour
Je taime
Merde
Cognac
One of the strong liquors possible, served after the meal. As strong as whisky. The almonds version is interesting too.
Armagnac?
Armagnac is different, but also similar, I think those 2 get confused with one another often enough
Almond makes me want to say amaretto
C'est la vie
Bon voyage
French fries
oui oui
