How do you react when someone knocks on your door?

Question

In 2026 nobody shows up to people's house and knocks unannounced unless its police or something, so what's your first reaction when you hear a random unplanned knock on the door? 😂

I live at the top of a 1/2 mile long, gravel driveway with 5 switchbacks, so it is very rare for anyone to come up to our house uninvited. If they do, I usually hear or see their car first.

We also have a sign on our door that says
NO TRESPASSING
NO Sales Agents
NO Pharmaceutical Agents
NO Survey or Notification Agents
NO Religious or Political Agents

But people do occasionally come up our driveway.
We have a box for packages at the bottom of our driveway but sometimes a delivery person will come all the way up to the house.
Religious weirdos have come up here before.
For a while, Google maps was mistakenly sending people here when they were looking for the house next door.
A lady cop came here once and knocked loudly on the door to tell me to evacuate because there was a fire down the street. I thanked her and promised to get prepared. But when I looked off in the distance (I'm on a hill), I couldn't see any fire or smoke. Come to find out, it was a grass fire about 3/4 miles away and the firefighters were on the scene. I just kept a lookout.

Anyway, like I said, I usually see when strange vehicles pull up to my house. Wen they do, I usually stand at the top of the porch and ask of I can help them. On the rare instance when it is a solicitor, I tell them I'm not interested and not to return.

I am armed in case anyone shady comes up. But that has never happened.

I live three houses away from a busy intersection, on one of the busiest streets in town. Down the street from my house is the mall and the police station. When I lived back inside one of the neighborhoods we rarely ever had solicitors knocking on the door, but there are lots of solicitors knocking on my door now. A couple years ago some tweaker was knocking on my front door and yelling through the window about his jacket at 3 o’clock in the morning. I grabbed my gun and told him he’s got the wrong house and he better get the hell out of here.

I live in an indoor apartment building, like a hotel. So when I open my door, they're inside the building in a hallway.

I just opened the door until a few weeks ago when these 2 guys from TruConnect phone service were trying to give me a brand new cellphone. They do that a lot in the city where I live.

Unfortunately I am already using the government discount for my phone. But they already had my personal information. I don't know how.

I told them what the name of my phone service is and they did fraud and had my phone service switched to TruConnect right away.

My other phone service called me to ask me if I knew about the change and I said no.

It took me 2 hours of calling places to get it changed back.

Now I look out the peephole first!

I just think its either the jehovas witness or the missionaries from the mormon church or just some kids pranks. This one of the reason if you want to buy a home in HOA make your Cash worth it buy a home in a gated community HOA at leadt you won't get crazy people.

Honestly if someone knocks on my door unannounced I don't even bother to check or open. When someone knocks on my door is usually because I ordered food or I'm expecting a delivery. If I didn't order anything I don't care to check.

People always knock on my door on announce for some reason and it really bothers me and I have no idea who it is and some of the times I don’t even answer it. sometimes it just solicitor trying to sell me windows and doors.

Funny how society has changed in that way since now, almost all adults carry a cell phone. Back say, 25 years ago, if you were in a friend's neighborhood, you'd just stop by and say "Hi" if they were around. Now it is somewhat of an expectation to call first. I just installed a porch cam that shows who walks onto my porch. But I live in a very quiet neighborhood and I don't get that many visitors at the door anyway. Solicitors are not allowed in the neighborhood.

An unannounced visitor pisses me off it’s isn’t just police. Junkies will arrive unannounced and if you let one in and use next time they’ll bring a friend then before you know it your door is swinging open and shut more than Walmarts

I look to see who it is, and if I don't recognize them, I ignore them... They eventually go away.
