What should you do if a contractor says their bid was too low?

In the process of doing the work, it was determined he miscalculated certain costs and needed to charge more. What would you do?

If you already have an offer to do the work in writing, hold him to it. Unless you had multiple bids and he was obviously WAY under every other bid. Then it might be fairest to ask him to recalculate and see where he lands. Just be careful to not get taken for granted. Changing the final cost after the initial bid is actually a super common way that many contractors make more money for themselves. Most customers make it easy by requesting changes mid project. But customers that accept the bid and then just sit back quietly waiting for the contractor to fulfill their obligations puts those tricky Dickies in a pickle.

Accuse him of trying to pull a fast one. This is why you should be cautious around low bids, 99% of the time they'll bump the price up once they win

I would pay for it. The way prices keep going up every day, it's very possible that could be why he had to charge more.
