How can I get my 72-year-old dad to stop slamming doors at night?

I'm staying with my dad at the moment.

He wakes up at 2am. He slams doors and cupboards. Bangs things hard on the kitchen bench while my mum and I are trying to sleep.

I've told him to stop and that me and mum have work but he just doesn't want to know.

Each time I talk to him about it he just says ok and keeps on doing it. Or he'll turn into a screaming match.

Do you think he is being rude?

He is Croatian and 72 so he doesn't listen to what anyone says.

I've just had it up to hear with him.

What else can I do?

You don't. NEVER try to change a man. Especially an old man. Their minds formed at 25 and whatever sticks sticks. Everything else falls to the mud.

1. Get those rubber grips and locks for babies. Put the rubber grips on the ends of all the doors so it can't slam. If they still slam use the clip to lock the adjoining cabinets, this way he would have to physically unlock the cabinet to then slam it. It's too many steps. He won't do it.

2. Put the rubber baby-proof grip on doorknobs bc it makes the doors harder to open. Put the rubber stopper on the corners of the doors... he won't be able to slam. He would have to take everything off the door... It's too many steps. He won't do it.

3. Hide the TV remote bc you know the TV is the other big noisemaker.

Do it to every door and cabinet in the house. The only door left to slam will be the one allowing him to leave the house to go piss into the wind. The end.

I've been actually thinking about putting him in a home. His behaviour over the last two years has been shocking.

I had an argument about it again today. I told him I'll put him in a home. His response was "I'll die in this house and I'll come and haunt you when I'm dead." He then said I need to go in care because I keep bringing it up. He's such a psychom

Thank you so much. He's the worst old man I know and sad he's my so called dad. I've never had a good relationship with him. You can see why. I'll by some sage and leave it in the room he stays most in. Lol. I feel bad for my mum dealing with his shit but she doesn't want to leave him. At least she can stay at my new house when she's had enough of him. Appreciate your help. He maybe going in a home sooner than he thinks. Lol.

I tried the slamming thing, he sleeps through anything. I did exactly what he does and didn't budge. I'll do the dinner thing and he always asks me to scan thing or reply to texts his friends him so next time I'll tell him to do it himself. I'd say he's worse than a child but I don't know what he is. When I told him the first few times he'd just tell me to f off. I have no idea what he is. Lol.

It's new. It's happened in the last two weeks. My mum has noticed it recently cause she used to sleep through the night but can't now because of his sudden behavior.

Lately he's been going at 11pm and wakes up at 2am. I've tried talking to him but it turns into a yelling session. He's an asshole father. Always has been. I'm here for 2 more weeks till I move into my new house.

This sounds like a very easy fix by going to Home Depot or hardware store to get a door stopper … it slows down the down from slamming.
