If you become an EMT then you're going to have to be Hands-On with people again and I'm not sure that would be such a good idea. As a security guard, you are probably going to have to carry a weapon and I'm also not so sure that's going to be a good idea for you.

I think you should consider a new occupation where the risk to others and the risks to yourself are somewhat minimized as compared to these occupations. It's not worth it to get in trouble again.

Nobody is going to allow you to become a security guard if they do a background check on you. And I also don't understand why you would want this low paid boring job anyway? What's the point? You might as well just work in fast food. It may not pay much and it may be kind of low rent but at least you won't be bored. It moves pretty fast.

I have/had motovation and interest in 3 lines of work: software development, public safety, and healthcare

I have lost passion in software engineering due to AI. It sucks now.

I cannot go into public safety due to mental illness and my past record

So I really don't know what I want to do with my life anymore.

At least a security role is at least somewhat authoritative.

Being broke and homeless is an even more humiliating situation. Many people who work in fast food cannot do anything else, such as yourself, apparently. If you have a vehicle, why don't you consider becoming an Uber or DoorDash driver? I have a close friend who has become a DoorDash driver, and he makes a fairly decent living and likes it. He gets to meet a lot of interesting people. I have used Uber myself many times when I had a lot of work to do and no time to do it on a long journey. Using Uber, I was able to do it in the car on my way to my destination. A few times, I've managed to finish my work quickly enough to have a good conversation with the Uber driver. They are very interesting folks. I think you would be a great Uber driver.

Dude, I was making $76k/yr as a software dev. I am already taking a huge hit to my dignity working a security guard job. I rather just remain on my SSDI and work part time security than to subject myself to bullcrap.

Yes, I understand. I'm sorry this happened to you, but I think the days of 76k a year are gone for you, at least for now. I don't think you can be a security guard unless you work for some company that doesn't do background checks, and I think they probably all do those now. SDI sounds like an option, as long as that's enough money for you. If you're going to work part-time, then again, working Uber or some other job that your dignity can tolerate is probably better than sitting home and feeling terrible. Again, I'm sorry this happened to you, and I'm trying to provide some reasonable alternatives for you.

Sure, if you can afford the startup money and the insurance and all the rest of the crap that goes with it, why not? However, I think even to own such a company requires some sort of background check or licensing. If you need to get a license to do it, which I think you do, then they're going to do a background check and not give you one.
