Just how many is a PLETHORA?

People often use the word PLETHORA to describe a large collection of things.

There is a plethora of reasons why people date, for example.

We have other words that define quantities. For example, duet means two, and octet means right.

But just how many is a PLETHORA?

A plethora refers to an excess too high to need to be counted. It’s subjective, but it basically just means “a lot” and it’s usually bad because plethora originally described an unhealthy excess of blood in the body or a specific organ.
If you have three apples, then you might say you have a few apples. However, if your spouse had three extramarital affairs, “few” seems to minimize the extent of her betrayal. She cheated a plethora is more appropriate.

It means a surplus to big to count not an exact amount. The Scandinavians call it overflod which sounds 'right'.
