I only am comfortable around guys when I'm drunk

Anyone else this way? I've been hurt a lot because of guys who I'm in relationships with abuse me, treat me bad, or just use me for sex then leave. I was also raped. Same with guys who I hook up with. It's gotten to the point that I just don't trust guys. The only time I do and don't care or worry about it they hurt me or not is when I'm drinking. When I'm drinking, I don't care what happens because I am more confident and honestly, I don't care because I won't remember anything anyway. My friends are concerned about me and think I have a drinking problem. Anyone else feel this way or are like that or am I the only one?

A lot of us seem to feel used. My advice is do not give in so easily. If a guys is interested then he will be okay with waiting! Usually a relationship that begins with sex does not last very long. I am concerned that you drink and don't have any recollection of what occurs. You could end up with an STD. Have you sought counseling for what has happened to you? I would highly recommend it. It sounds like right now you are self medicating with alcohol...which in turn could lead to so many more problems! When I was in my early twenties, I was nervous around guys too. However, the more I dated, the more people I networked with or met. Over time, it becomes a piece of cake to talk to people. You will find that they are just as nervous.

Oh it's not nervousness or anything, I'm confident. it's just I want to be with a guy but I don't trust any of them enough to be so I drink so that I don't have any anxiety about their motives or feel bad if they use me for sex and nothing more.

I'm not sure that you are confident. I hope you would be because that would be respecting yourself...it's one thing to enjoy an intimate encounter but it doesn't sound like your getting anything from those types of situations. Try getting together with guys without alcohol. Try dinner or a movie. Don't sleep with them so quickly. You should care, set standards for what you want.

I do when I'm sober. I don't put up with anything but they all just leave when I say I don't want a relationship. And then the good guys think I'm just an easy party girl. So either way, I have a rep. I haven't slept with any guy lately. When I go out, I just fool around and make out and all of that. I've given up. It doesn't really make a difference anymore.

Life is sometimes so easy for some and so hard for others, it is very hard to comprehend things often from another person's view unless we have gone through the experience ourselves (as each person is to their own). Sounds like you've gone through some tough times yourself...I'm sorry to hear that. :'( It's simply not normal to feel things would be OK when getting drunk. Maybe what you need is a bit of an emotional detox? ie. get someone friendly to really talk to you about all your problems from an outside view, and then work in from there. If you need someone to talk to, I can help...
