Trending & News The first thing to do is for both of you to admit that no matter how much either of you follow politics, you are both fairly clueless. I don't mean this as an insult, I am just saying that both of you are probably so far removed from the actual truth of politics that you are just making the best guesses based on the information you have and that odds are you are both wrong about most things.
Next is to realize that almost everyone WANTS the same things. A strong economy, low crime, peaceful foreign relations when possible, prosperity and freedom for everyone. The only difference is how people think we should go about achieving these goals. For example, someone who is pro-life doesn't actually love the prospect of limiting freedom, they honestly believe that abortion is murder and that no one should have the freedom to commit murder. Likewise, someone who is pro-choice doesn't actually support murder, they just think that a fetus is not a human (in spite of all scientific evidence to the contrary) and support the freedom of the mother.
People who oppose gay marriage don't hate gay people (for the most part) they just don't think that it is good for our culture because the typical family, which is the building block of civilization, is increasingly uncommon these days, whereas people who support gay marriage believe that the danger to society is overrated/nonexistent and it is far more important that we allow people to live their lives as they see fit.
In all these cases no one is malicious, they just have different opinions about the best way to achieve what everyone wants, the perfect balance of prosperity, safety, and freedom.
Once you both accept that you support the same major goals, the details on how to achieve those goals become far less important.
Well I usually line up on the liberal side of things and I definitely don't think abortion is the most ethical thing in the world. I think it being legal is a necessity though.. based on the fact that women will always want to terminate their pregnancy and people will probably resort to shady clinics in dirty back alleys where you'll lose both the baby and the mother without it. Same as how I think all drugs should be legalized.. at least they can be regulated.. same with abortion. Babies=human.
Well there will always be people that want to rob, steal, rape and murder too, so by your flawed logic ALL crimes should be done away with, because laws never completely stop crime from happening.
It is very difficult to be in a relationship where your partner has different political ideologies. I've been through this situation several times and those relationships have been some of my shortest. I am a very political person though and I believe the country should go in a certain direction. There is nothing you can do about it. Either both of you can live with that or you can't.
Agree
I have this problem Dx
I'm the liberal too.. I hate that he's conservative :P
But we just learned to agree to disagree.
It's the best you can do :\ If it's really that big of a problem tough, then maybe you guys aren't right for each other. But I think the first option is a lot better :)
Good luck~
my boyfriend is a democrat and I'm completely neutral and don't get involved in ANY voting, war, plitics, etc. I doesn't affect our relationship he just wishes I would vote but its a waste of time. people get sick, die and can't even help themself let alone trust a regular person to help me. no thanks

Nothing you can do about it. I find both parties to be a joke though so, that'd add a different form of variable to the equation in my situation. Either I run into girls who don't have an opinion/belief due to no thought on the matter, or they're extreme in some way or another. To the point where they'd cut your balls off. 1) accept their beliefs/opinions-E.G learn to agree to disagree. 2) find a new gf.
No point in changing people. I'm more amazed someone would date a democrat :L.. or a republican XD.hell even if they're polar opposites in some regards.
Well I'm an Independent I usually vote for someone based on how I perceive their integrity not their political party. I do usually vote overwhelmingly on the left side of the spectrum though. My girlfriend and I have some different political views but I'd say we agree the majority of the time though.
Seriously though instead of trying to change the others' opinion you could just respect each others' views and just agree to disagree.
im not trying to change her ideals or anything, it just sparks a lot of debate and arguing
yea, I think just because its election season heating up its coming up more lol
It's not so bad. You are a lot closer than you think since both parties are a bunch of retards. Republicans tend to be a bit better, but not enough to make big enough difference.
It's the other way around for me.. Well it used to be. I was Republican, she is Democrat. These days (without it turning into a debate or argument) I'm anti Political! Both sides SUCK! The winner usually turns out to be the one who lied the best. I trust no one in politics. But I guess my views are still the same. We just don't talk about it anymore. I vote my way she votes hers. Same thing goes for religious views.
I just don't date outside my political and religious views. It only causes future problems.
Pretty easy to date outside your political sphere. Find a common ground and build on it.
Frankly I've never had this problem...i consider myself a moderate democrat, so I usually don't clash very heavily with most people politically.
im going to be aggresive with my answer: don't talk about politics dipsh*t
just don't bring up politics I don't know me and my boyfriend never have lol
man! why let politics interfere with your relationship?
I broke up with a girlfriend over something like this.
Obviously you just need to win the argument. Because you are the one who is right. ;D
They have you just where they want you. mwahahahahaha lol
