The biggest piece of advice that I can give you is that you need to remove the passiveness that is attached to your feelings for him. In association with your feelings, chances are you hold back things that you would normally say because you're nervous to say the wrong thing. What guys love the most is a sweet, but confident woman. Hold your ground and ask whatever comes to your mind. If he brings up a topic, ask him more about it--chances are he brought it up in hopes of you being interested. If he doesn't say much at all, ask him things that you'd like for him to ask you... that way, he has something to ask in return if he runs out as well :) good luck!
It isn't something you really force. I'm in the same situation with a friend of mine, and every time we talk, which isn't nearly as often as Id like, I get giddy and somewhat obnoxiously excited about life. Its just something that happens when you like someone. It sounds like you've got a decent base of a relationship, but just staying there won't do anything. Make a move or two and get him thinking. Then wait a little while before talking to him again. He will be going crazy trying to talk to you and will be super excited when he can.
