Why do guys play it cool around the woman they like?

What is the underlying reason for it? And what are some examples of "playing it cool"?

The opposite of "playing it cool" is being desperate, and that's the fastest way to drive women away. Women hate the stink of desperation, and they can smell it on a guy from a mile away.

Having said that, you can go too far with "playing it cool", going even beyond "playing hard to get" and into pure jack-ass territory.

But a confident guy knows he can relax and be himself and doesn't have to fall all over himself trying to get a girl's attention, which in most cases would only cause her to lose interest. He can s show some interest in her, but just not try too hard, and that will peak the interest for many women, and soon they are finding things about the guy they find attractive, when 2 minutes before, he was a nobody to them.

That's why.

Because there are too many girls who say a guy looks desperate when he doesn't. It's conditioning really. If women stopped rejecting guys who show an interest, guys wouldn't try nearly so hard trying to hide it. Simple as that.

A nervous guy sometimes comes off to majority of girls as a sissy or jus plainly not man enough to take the lead. A laidback guy shows that he is confident and doesn't worry what people may say around him. Generàlly these guys have high self esteem and never lack confidence in themselves
