Do young women like 50 Shades of Grey?

by young I mean the 18-24 age group.

so anyway, unlike most men, I am going to read this book because I want to understand what REALLY makes women go crazy, and that knowledge should translate into a greater success with women for me.

But then I read that the women who go crazy for this book are mostly mums and older women, who are definitely not the women I am aiming to attract, lol.

so then, do younger women like this book as much as the older ones? do they find the stuff in this book as...seductive, as the older women do?

P.S: OK girls, I have only read the first chapter just yet so I don't really know how far it goes with the S&M thing, but I am not asking if you like that kind of stuff, because I know most girls are not...weird...enough to go down that road (probably), I guess what I am really asking is, do women of all ages love a man who is mentally/physically domineering and seductive? Since that's the image I am led to believe what Christian Grey is.

Yes, they almost all do. Those are the things that define what "manly" means to people.

I could explain the book to you. It's about two people in a consenting relationship, and how he slowly pushes her to do more and more graphic things (but still somehow respects her wishes and is romantic when he takes her virginity, which is completely unrealistic for a guy who does the kinds of things he does)

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about when I talk about women who want things that aren't realistic.

The benefits of that book is that it shows that S&M relationships are measured in shades of grey, rather than black and white, and that they actually are about compromise, rather than control. The negatives are that it perpetuates stereotypes that no relationship could ever live up to, and that it's lessons are easy to take out of context

ooo noo I do NOT like that book!..thats not my style...just because women read it and like it and say its thier fantasy...doesn't mean they want it done to them in real life..its just a mental fantasy they have with the guy in the book. but honestly I don't not like being tide up..it scares me and I like to feel like I have some bit of control too..i like feeling safe when I'm with my man..not like I'm being punished or tortured :O ..so if you meet a girl..ask her what she likes..instead of assuming all women like it, because a lot do..and a lot dont. :) hope this helped!

Most of the girls and women I know who really really love that series are passive aggressive and dramatic. I mean the ones who say "Mrs. Christian Gray" on Facebook and all that jazz. I think it's fairly common knowledge that passive aggressive people end up attracted to dominant ones.

Other women read it as more of a character study, and are intrigued by the characters and relationship, despite not wanting to actually have that type of relationship. Some people don't have to personally identify with the characters in a book or movie to enjoy it.

Sure you do. It's the reason why thugs don't watch Korean love stories. If you don't see yourself or someone like you in the story, you'll move on because it ISN'T RELATEABLE TO YOU

I disagree. I think that's why some of these soaps ARE popular -- the people's lives are exotic and different. It's a curiosity. I'm not saying everyone is like that, just that some people are.

I enjoyed it because it was so... Cliche. We live in a hectic world and it's nice to have an outlet every once in a while. The story wasn't top-notch, but the characters drew my in (basically because that main character is named Christian and that's my boyfriend's name and the main girl's father calls her Annie, and that's obviously my name) so I was more able to put myself in the story... I live a very boring life XD

But '50 Shades' is very popular here in Germany among the young girls, always see someone reading it on the train.

Young girls need to realize when they're being pandered to... there are much better ways to learn about this kind of thing than a stupid romance novel which isn't even completely accurate.

Ha ha ha, this is a good question, for me no, I have no impulse to go out and buy this book to read it, none at all. It's funny because my mother and the women on her car-pool who are all older women (much older) talk about this book.

There is more to life than being dominating and seductive. Although women like guys because they are guys. Be a good person.

I am 18 and loved that series... I don't get turned on my visual... don't get me wrong I like looking at men but look at them is not going to make me want sex. This book was more then a sex book, it was a weird love story and even if your not into BDSM it still gives you ideas of stuff to try in the bed room... (even if your a virgin like me). Its a hot series. ;)

I don't like it. I'm all for juicy stories, but I'm not a bondage or SM fan. and reading those kinds of stories never turns me on really. I think I'd prefer p*rn to be honest, I'm not gonna lie to you.

Christian Grey is sexy as f***! but he is a domineering a**hole. I have the entire trilogy. I though the extreme bondage thing was a little crazy but it was a good read. But Christian got me angry most of the time with his fine rich arse.

Of course it was mild, you've done some of that stuff before. The point of the book was to show women that S&M relationships were based on consent and not control. It wasn't really written as p*rn for girls like you, who have already tried it. It's more like S&M for dummies lol
