Is It rude to not tell people where I bought my clothes

People I work with frequently ask me where I bought certain pieces of clothes because they want to buy them. I really hate seeing my twin every wear is there a polite way to not tell people

i think it's pretty silly. They're NOT going to go out immediately and buy what you're wearing, plus, why be so protective over your clothing? I would think you should be flattered. It sounds like you're trying to do one, or both of two things to me:

1. Trying to maintain a certain amount of superiority by being the ONLY one with the desired clothing

2. Trying to maintain a sense of individuality by being the only one with the clothing.

What's the real problem in saying, "Oh I got this at Century XXI" or any other place? Why is so much emphasis placed on your clothing?

Because individuality is such a horrible thing? You must be a follow the leader type of person. Grow up, a person owes you nothing, that includes the ability to walk around like their doppelgänger. 🙄🙄🙄

People like that are the worst kind of customers for a retailer. They’re only stopping their money. If they want exclusive items they should probably make their own clothing.

Usually if I ask someone where they bought their clothes, it's not to buy exactly what they're wearing. It's to check out a store I might not have been to that has good clothes.

But to answer your question, it's probably best to say you don't remember and you've had it for a long time. Are you really going to keep a log of where you bought everything?

it's not rude to have an aversion to seeing your style copied left right and center. Just saying that you don't want to tell will come off as rude. Just say you can't remember, smile when you say it and make it seem offhand. If people start to notice, just say you have a terrible memory for stuff like this.

I hate that! I always say a gift, or online a few years ago so I don't remember.

Ugh I hate when people ask. I can't help.but be honest because I'm not lier. But I think it would be best to lie and say its a gift, or say you got it somewhere else. Or say "i don't even remember. I bought it ages ago." Its not rude. I think its rude to.copy someone else.

I think its best to say you got it from some other country when you went there for a visit or smthn...its rude to say "I don't want to tell u" ,but its not rude to not want to tell,do what makes you feel comfortable,as long as your not hurting anybody's feelings...

I don't think rude is the right word I'm looking for. I just think it is stupid that you would make a big deal out of something like that. They're just clothes. If they are mass produced you bet there's going to be tons of your "twins" walking around. Go design your own clothes then you won't have to worry about anyone having the same thing.

There’s a difference between walking into a store and buying the same outfit and doing it because you saw someone else with it on air head.

The funny thing is, most of you spend your time on Facebook, Twitter, or instagram to be nosey and socialize, yet you will not use those same platforms to “better” your business, education, or sense of style. Or you could say "I've forgotten, I'm not one of those people big on designers and brand names."

Or if really desperate just lie...?
