Why does he always thank me?

My boyfriend of almost nine months always tells me "thanks for hanging out with me" or something similar. Does that mean anything or am I just over analyzing?

I think it could mean one of 2 things. He could be acting polite and gentlemanly or he could have a little bit of a self-esteem issue and he can't believe a girl like you would hang out with him and he's thankful that you do.
