What does it mean when a girl calls you "mate"?

I was having a convo with the girl I like about waking up early. and we starting joking about it... in reply she said

Is this a bad sign? Or was she just joking it or didn't really mean like that?

"Mate" is the usual way of talking in England, especially London. It's also usual in Australia. If you live in the USA or elsewhere, I think it's not common, but I hear British slang is sometimes used there. It definitely does not mean she wants to mate with you, since "mate" was originally only used among men.

Australians say "mate" instead of "man" or "dude". It doesn't mean anything. Even if she isn't Australian, she could be trying to sound cool. It doesn't mean that she can't say it just because she isn't Australian.
