Meeting my Mexican boyfriend's parents...tips?

I'm black American and my boyfriend is Mexican and I am meeting his parents and brothers and his sister next weekend. Are there any tips for meeting your s/o's parents? Or specifically Mexican parents? Anything I should bring?

Just relax, be nice, and don't be fake. His mother will be the first to be able to see if you're being fake and you don't want to be on her bad side lol

Can't really give you much advice on Mexican parents specifically. My boyfriend and his family are Hispanic but not Mexican, though what they are shouldn't really matter. As long as you're respectful, they should like you.

When I first met my boyfriends family, I was terrified to meet his mother. He had told me that she didn't like his ex and she is super protective of him. I met her and she was the sweetest woman I have ever met and she adores me :) We get along quite well and she even calls me "mija" which makes me smile every time. And I get along with his father and two younger brothers very well. We always joke and laugh together.

Don't stress over it too much. If his mother approves, you're good to go.

Being a Mexican myself, I will say that all you really need to do is be yourself, if you're comfortable talking or just being quite do it, so they know who you really are and be polite. For the most of us, respect is crucial and good communication is vital. We love our heritage and we are really connected with our customs, our foods (especially hot/spicy food and chiles and tortillas :))and some are religious, like I'm Catholic, but whatever their beliefs are respect them. I'm sure if you are a person of respect and you have a compassionate heart you will win the whole family including the mom and you will know because she will call you "mija" which is short for "mi hija" or my daughter, so this word is used for respect and affection. Enjoy the customs and share to them some of your own. Hope everything goes well!

Do they know he's in an interracial relationship? If not, I'd say be aware that they could hold some prejudices towards you and may not be too welcoming or warming. You don't need to be on the defense, but just be prepared and aware if they do not know you're black (right now).

Other than that, it's like meeting any other parents.

You should both bring her something...depending on what she likes. Just bring one item to her from the both of you

There's always the possibility she will dislike you just because. Some mothers are like that
