What does it mean when he says 'wish we'd met under different circumstances?

I've been seeing this guy for the last 8months now and lately we've been getting closer and talking everyday at least twice and he sees me like nearly everyday and today he said he wishes we met under different circumstances (we met through my ex and he has a girlfriend) but what does he mean by that like what does it imply to anyone else? Does it mean he has feelings for me? No one knows about us because there's nothing we can do about it as my ex didn't know we remained in contact and were even that close to begin with! Argh! I think I'm falling for him so whatever ya'll think would be useful. Thanks.

I think it is obvious. He really likes you but he is a guy with morals. One: he is friends with your ex. Two: he has a girlfriend at the moment. He might be rethinking how much his current relationship means to him. I believe he feels a connection to you. That does not mean he will dump his current girlfriend for you. It just means he has acknowledged his feelings for you. That may be as far as it goes.

If what he said is true and not just a line, then it means that he has, or possibly had, feelings for you; but something is holding him back from acting on his feelings.

well he doesn't feel its right for him to be with you if you were introduced to each other by our ex.
