My dog sometimes does something similar, when his stomach is bothering him. He'll be panting a lot and ends up swallowing a lot of air, he then coughs up white foam. It sounded pretty bad, so people not familiar with it wouldn't know not to go to the vet.
That being said, if you are very concerned you should probably take him to the vet. Air on the side of caution, especially when you are unsure of what he could have eaten.

These are wild animals, they aren't going to stay healthy for long in captivity. Get him to a vet, get him well, and then release him back into the wild, unless he was born in captivity, since he wouldn't make it...GEt him to the vet quick, I doubt you have much time!
My boyfriend said he's not sure, but ferrets will eat anything, even shiny things, and rubber etc. I think you should force feed him water -.o if he ate a poison, at least that might help him detoxify. Call a vet tomorrow
is there something poisonous that he's eating? That might be under the chair?

Rabies causes foam from the mouth you know, But if he's not acting like he's In pain or dying Then just take it to a vet
Call the vet I would say just to be on the safe side.
