We tell our selves that somewhere out in the world there is "the one" that will be the only one I will ever need. In the mean time we break our hearts against the stones of our own making. The stone walls that are formed by the words we are raised under. The words that tell us that we must only have one partner for life. So we take our chances over and again, trying to find "the one." We break each others' hearts by forcing those around us to follow the same standard that we try to hold ourselves to. But few of us succeed.
Many of us suffer the pain of being with one person only to find ourselves atracted to another, the atraction grows and becomes more. We still love the one we are with, but now there is this feeling for someone else. If we truly love the one, we should not feel these things for anyone else. Right? Wrong! This is the pain of the lie. You see, this is not a lie for all. But for many it is. Those for whom it is not a lie insist that everyone follow the same standard. For those of us that this standard is not true, it is a lie. It is nothing but pain and shame to try to live by the standards of others. To try to live by standards that force us to act against our nature, it is a lie. We lie to ourselves to try to fit in. We try to alter our nature in order to follow the standards that others say we must.
But when we accept our nature and and see that for us, the normative standard is a lie, we begin to find freedom of the soul. When our souls are free and we accept ourselves for who/what we truly are, then and only then can we truly love.
So I say, to any who read this, look beyond what others say you should act like and how you should love. Only you, once you have accepted yourself, has any right to tell you who to love, how to love them, or even how many you can love.
For me, love is not limited to one. Nor for my wife. Nor for our girlfriend.
Love is not finite, but infinite. Ask any parrent of multiple children whether or not they love any of their children less for having more than one child.
