6 Phrases More Important Than 'I Love You'

For an "I love you", some people are capable of anything and others desperately wait for these words throughout their lives. The best movies and songs are about love; it's at the center of our existence.

But why do we obsess over those three words so much? Receiving an "I love you" makes us feel unique. Yet there are other phrases that mean more. These are genuine expressions of love, however, they often go unnoticed. So the next time you hear them, measure their impact and take them for what they are - a wonderful declaration.

1. I support you no matter what

Your partner knows your dreams and goals, and is ready to do anything to help you achieve them. If you have to move to the other side of the world, he/she will go with you and whatever your choice is, he/she will respect it.

2. I will always be by your side

This small anodyne phrase is so reassuring. It proves that your love is unconditional. He/she is your rock and in return you support him/her no matter what. You will always be together, through thick and thin.

3. Stay the same

He/she always accepted your flaws. You are as you are, and this is why he/she loves you. You know that he/she respects you, takes into account your opinions and your feelings and you're his/her equal and he/she proves it to you every day.

4. I need you by my side

When your partner is going to a party, he/she begs you to come with him/her: "I'll get bored without you." Together, you always have fun, no matter where you are.

5. You changed my life

You gave meaning to his/her life. Since you're together, life smiles at you. Every day is unique and you take advantage of every second to love each other.

6. Do you want the last piece of chocolate?

Your partner knows how to spoil you and he/she's ready to do anything to please you! (even give you the last slice of pizza).

I disagree with the "Stay the same."
A person is an ever evolving creature that has no room to stop and become stagnant. Sure, if I find someone I fall in love with, I fall in love with them as they were in that moment. But if I stay together with them after that, I would like to grow alongside them. Experience life alongside them. Change alongside them. Why stay together with someone and remain as you are for the rest of your life?

1, 2 and 4 are basically the same. I don't agree with 3. While you shouldn't force someone to be something they aren't, a true good companion will encourage you to grow, improve and change in positive ways.

I believe one of the most important phrases in any relationship, romantic or otherwise, is "I'm sorry."

I have never said, "I support you no matter what" because I DON'T support anyone "no matter what." If they are wrong, I'll either tell them or let them find out on their own. I don't expect anyone to support me "no matter what," either.

I agree with these except for "Stay the same". Sometimes people grow and change and people definitely get older.

I guess it seems like what you are saying is to never stop accepting the person and be open to who they are. Always be willing to accept them. I can agree with that sentiment.

I think we all need to hear all of these phrases, because they are important. Especially since the word love gets thrown around a lot it can seem impersonal or not genuine.

I have to say, I don't like hearing the words, "Don't ever change." Change is inevitable and a part of life. The moment you stop changing is the moment that you stop growing as a person. I don't want that to happen. I would rather hear "I want to grow with you" or "Let's grow together" than "Don't ever change."

I sort of like number #1 only if the person saying it knows what she's talking about. It's an extremely strong demonstration of trust and a very strong acknowledgement of ability. You are viewed as trust worthy enough for someone to bet their life on.

The only part I have to take issue with is this: "The best movies and songs are about love". Just not true. I find many songs and movies about love to be too cliche to enjoy them. Most of my favorites are about other topics.

"Stay the same" = "If you ever change anything about who I think you are whether you ashamed or not, I'd hate you for life"

Don't use that phrase, you'd never know who's into the closet. Who really hates who they are and who's against conformity.
