My boyfriend has turned into an asshole, why?

Ok, so we started dating around 7 months ago during summer. At first it was really great, he seemed like the perfect guy, so considerate and caring and loving. Then after about 3 months he changed a bit but not noticeable, the relationship wasn't as great. And for the rest of the time he's been an unbearable prick. He just doesn't seem to care about me any more, despite saying he does. He constantly tells me that I'm causing arguments between us, when I wouldn't have to if he didn't act like such an asshole. He never says anything sweet any more, when I'm upset he quickly skips over it and we have to talk about him, he thinks that talking to me over the phone is boring and he feels 'nothing' (I see him once a week because of distance and I know he hates it). I've spoken to him loads about it, there have been countless arguments all resulting in him telling me he will change he 'promises' but he hasn't. Today I showed him some screenshots of our old conversation that I found and told him I missed the way it used to be, to which he responded 'it's not all about you though'. Am I really asking for too much? For my boyfriend to show that he cares and loves me. Should I just end it? I really do love him and I couldn't bear to lose him but I can't do this any more, he doesn't seem to care about me at all.

I know you don't want to, but you should call it quits. He isn't treating you right, he's being way too selfish and rude and doesn't deserve love from a sweet girl like you. You are in no way asking him for too much and if he can't deliver than he can go. You deserve to be happy and if it isn't with him oh well.

Hates the one day a week he spends with you, doesn't like talking to you on the phone, doesn't even acknowledge when you say nice things to him. Doesn't sound at all like a boyfriend, more like somebody you don't get along with and doesn't like you. End it asap.

I see a lot of "I" in this. What about his happiness? I doubt he's skipping around with a smile on his face. You ever wonder what is making him unhappy? Because this is not the behavior of a happy guy.
