My bf is a raging alcoholic and he turns into a monster when he's drunk.. I need advice and how to fix my relationship because I ran out of options?

I have been with my bf for about two years and I knew he loves to have a drink. At the start he wasn't that bad of a person

But as the relationship progressed his alcohol addiction got worse :( soon he was drinking every day and all night
whenever he is drunk he gets angry with me and he yells at me in public. I've cried in front of him, poured my heart out and written letter expressing how I feel about his drinking

There were times when My bf has hit me after an argument about his alcohol consumption :( I've told him "you scare me a lot when your drunk you turn into a monster :( " after I tell him that he apologizes and.... I'm back to square 1
i really do love my bf its just hard being in this situation
