How to reject a really nice guy nicely?

After how badly my previous relationship ended, I can't even think about dating anyone yet , yes I have trust issues :(
This guy is soo sweet and he's attractive. We're pretty good friends now and we hang out quite a bit. I just want to be nice about it because I always seem to mess it up when it comes to something like this.( rejecting someone)

oh my gosh I understand how you feel! I last relationship ended badly and I met this really nice guy right after and he's the type of person who wants you to be happy and always wants the best for you. He liked me so much, actually still likes me, and he's just stuck on me for some reason i dont even know why. He told me about his feelings (of course i already knew) I just told him the truth. I'm pretty sure he'll understand. That's the easiest way to go. I know how it feels, i felt so bad telling him but I wouldn't want to lie to him and hurt him even more. So just tell him the truth and if he's a genuinely good guy he'll understand and respect what you want. Hope this helps!

Well, of course he was sad. Anything you'd say would make him sad. If you lied about the reason he'd still be upset , the easiest way to let him down is to tell the absolute truth. I told him the truth and we're still talking right now, we're really close friends. He even told me that he really liked how I just told him the truth instead of making up a reason.

I think you should actually give him a chance because it seems like the only reason you're not wanting to date him is due to your past relationship. Don't let your past rule your future.

Well, it depends. Are you open to the idea of dating him later, or is that something that's never going to happen? If you want to date him later, try something like "I haven't had enough time for myself since my last breakup, but I'll let you know when I'm ready." If you don't ever plan to date him, try something like "I'm flattered, but I'm just not interested in you that way."

To be honest I'm not sure if I want to date him in the future, right now I can't even think about it and I don't want to give him false hope :(
so I might go with the second option :)

Fair enough. I have to give you credit for being considerate towards his feelings. There are a lot of women out there who wouldn't give five seconds of thought to how the guy's feelings would be affected, so good on ya for that.

Yep I've actually been misled so much so I know how hurtful it is. My ex told me he'll wait 3 years for me since I was moving away, he made me believe that we'll stay together and after a month of me moving away he broke up with me and I found out he might already be dating his friend 😂. I'd never do something like that to anyone. :)

I would add: Try and stay friends. You probably want this anyway. Keep an open mind. It will take a long time for the hurt you have suffered to go. He may well have no other plans at the moment, and the more you can stay in contact, the more likely you are to begin to trust again. Good friends are sometimes hard to find!

Yeah I definetely want to stay friends! I hope he does too though. Our friendship seems to be getting stronger and I wouldn't want to mess that up

Just tell him you're simply not interested in a relationship. Just know though since you seem to find him attractive inside and out that you shouldn't expect there to ever be anything between you two after you reject him.
