Guys, why won't my boyfriend attend my family events?

Me and him been together 8 years so he has he met my mom and dad. Now we are futher in our situation and he doesn't go anywhere i invite him. I go to every family event his family has. Any hoildays he wants me to go to, I go. Now we are not married but I'd like my family to see that Im not alone. I feel like he is imaginary to my family. I feel hurt that he doesn't say yes even if he doesn't want to go, I feel like he should. 8yrs is along time to show up alone at every family event.

It must really suck for you. He should really man up and go meet his in-laws. Why do you keep going to his family's events? Give him his own medicine. I understand that he may not like meeting your relatives, but he really should make an effort. I used to hate my exs relatives, but I still went every Sunday because she always came to see mine. It's a form of respect.

He may not like them, or he gets the impression they don't like him, or feel intimidated by them, feel he won't know what to say or do once he is there and is avoiding that awkwardness. For some reason your family is out of his comfort zone. Sounds like you two need a good sit down talk about this.

That's so weird. My only thought is that he's nervous or afraid they won't like him. But since he's met your parents, even that doesn't make a lot of sense. Most people are curious about their partner's family and enjoy meeting them.

So what should I do. Today I just told my family I couldnt make it cuz i dont feel well but the whole "no i got this.." makes me feel way different then he is nervous.

At some point you're going to have to confront him on it. It probably won't be a pretty conversation. Guys are like tigers, back us into a corner and you'll get the claws eventually. But you don't have much other choice, since this seems to be his pattern. I suppose you could start refusing to go to his events, but that'll likely just escalate the whole thing and make it worse, pushing you further apart. Little things too often become big problems. Either way, you risk something. But if it's bothering you, best to take care of it now before it grows into a monster.
