If a couple breaks up, then gets back together– does the date/anniversary change or stay the same?

so i and my boyfriend got together January 15, and broke up April 5. we were off for 5 months, but always kept in contact. we just got back together September 20. would our anniversary change to September 20 or stay as January 15? thaank you.

Lol, this question is hilarious. This would make an adorably quirky, cute, charming conversation where you and your boo could laugh about anything crazy that happened during the breakup.

My guess is that the anniversary would stay the same but I guess it's also different for every couple and how their relationship went. Some couples may find it liberating to change the anniversary date.

It depends on what they want themselves. If it's 5 months then I'd be more likely to say September 20th (doesn't matter to me if we kept contact, we were not together for a half year xD). If it's a week or so then I'd stick with the old date. Cause a half year without him, it's unfair to say we've been together for 2 years, while actually it was 1,5 year.

It's really up to you. I think it makes most sense that your anniversary date stay at January 15th, the day that you two decided to get together and commit to each other and ignore the gap of 5 months.

The anniversary would be different. If I dated someone for the 1st year, broke up, and gotten back 10 years later, would we have our 11th year anniversary after we got back together 10 years later?
