How to deal with my ex boyfriend moving into the same neighborhood as my new boyfriend?

I was in a relationship with my ex boyfriend off and on for almost five years. Last year we split for good and I met my current boyfriend. Our one year anniversary is in about a month and we have a wonderful relationship. The other day while riding in his car I noticed a woman who looked a lot like my exes mother. I didn't think much of it till I saw what I'm 95% sure is my ex boyfriend. I was very worried because they were right in front a home that had been for rent for awhile. Once we reached my boyfriend's house I told him I wanted to take a walk. He agreed and went inside to change and shower up. I went down the area where the house was but no one was outside any longer. I let it go thinking I was being paranoid but the next day I saw him again as we were driving out of the neighborhood. My boyfriend caught me staring and thought I was checking him out. I brushed it off and said nothing further. However last night I told him what I feared was happening and of course he was very upset. I lied to go see if my ex was down there and I knew I was wrong for that. I understand his feelings and wish I had taken steps to avoid causing him pain.

My question is what do I do? If I run into my ex he will talk to me I know that for a fact. My boyfriend would be livid if that were to occur. I feel like if we did communicate it would be a good time to get some closure. To let him know I'm good and hopefully to find out he is happy too. Should I try and make sure it is him or just let this go and try to avoid him?
