Is vaping the same as smoking a cig? Should I make it a deal-breaker?

I met this amazing and hot guy on a dating website and he has all the qualities I am looking for... spiritual, educated, good job, chivalrous, funny, etc etc but he vapes! He said he vapes because he used to smoke and he is on the path to quitting. On our date, he took the ecig out but before he used it, he asked if I'd be comfortable with that. Under pressure I said yes but ughhh I don't know what to do. He is so sweet I really don't want to end this so early!

Anyways, I know very little on vaping so can someone help? Smoking cigs is a complete deal breaker for me. :(

Vaping is not smoking. Vaping does not involve any of the tar and toxins that cigarettes do. If anything he is doing what you want, he is converting from a smoker to a non smoker. Vaping and e-cigarettes in general purely contain nicotine. So, in essence, he is inhaling a nicotine patch. You should be proud of him for getting off real cigarettes. He is doing well!

I smoke cigarettes and have tried e-cigarettes so I know that it's not an easy conversion. I can understand your views on smoking and I respect them. I would respect if someone didn't want to be with me because of it. Similarly, if someone would only be with me if I gave up then I wouldn't want to be with them.

I don't think it should be a deal breaker. He is trying to get healthier and there isn't any danger with second hand vaping. I do believe there is some dangers to vaping, but it's definitely not as bad as smoking. I've heard it also doesn't give you bad breath.

It seems silly to let this be a deal breaker when you like everything about him. He even had the courtesy to ask you about it. You're going to let a good guy slip when you shouldn't.

you don't have to end it exactly. he said he's trying to quit right? from what i heard, they are supposed to help you quit. i'm not sure if that actually works. you should probably mention to him that you can get mold in your lungs from those things. it's up to you really, but maybe you could just ask him not to do it around you, in a nice way?

Its still not good for you, but it is so much more healthier than smoking and it doesn't leave smells in the house or in clothes and you won't taste it if you kiss him.

If theyre vaping because they thinks its cool, sure, make it a deal breaker, but he's quitting cigs. Youve gotta give him props for that, and just give him a chance.

It's the same but most people I know who trying to quit use vapes. I'm not sure of the reason as I've never smoked anything in my life, not even a cig or weed.

it's the same in the sense that the person has an addiction to nicotine. but it's different in the sense that they have chosen a more healthy way (as far as we know) to feed their need.

it's really up to you. but i guess the considerations are why is cigarette smoking a deal breaker? is it the smell or health issues? is it the appearance that turns you off? is it the fact that they are addicted to something?

Vaping is definitely not the same as smoking cigs.

Cigs contain quite some amounts of nicotine that releases dopamine in the brain which is why it's addictive, added that the tobacco contributes to damaged lungs and bad breath.

However vape (without nicotine) is mostly just flavour, and does not have the same physical harming properties to that of a cigarette. Although, the moisture may cause lung fluid congestion, it won't give you bad breath or screwed up respiratory system.

the American lung association says "tests conducted in 2009 the FDA found detectable levels of toxic cancer-causing chemicals" so i wouldn´be so sure about the harmlessnes.

no, it's not as harmful as cigs. but it is as addictive. it has nicotine in it. it's just water vapor coming out of his mouth. it's harmless. most of my friends vape. they say they're using it to quit smoking but i don't see that happening any time soon. anyway!
i would make a compromise. But that's up to you. you're early enough in a relationship that leaving is okay. find a guy that meets what you want. personally, if you're looking for marriage, being picky isn't that bad.

On one side, he is quitting so why not taking all the qualities you mention and say you are meeting him at the right time, while he is quitting.

With that said, I used to smoke and the only thing that helped me stop altogether was exercise. Vaping did abaolutely nothing for me, so I'd be wary of that.

It helped me quit. I use it when I'm around people who are smoking cigarettes. The plus side is no smokers

some vape has nicotine in it and some doesn't. My dad smokes it all the time lol he loves trying different flavors and stuff
