Boyfriend said he wants to go on vacation with me, but I can't afford it? Why would he bring it up?

I am new into the work place (recent grad). I'm working full time and making ends meet. My boyfriend of 2 years is two years older than me and has a steady job and salary.
He said he wants to go on a trip with me. I obviously cannot afford it right now.
Why would he bring this up if he knows I'm barely making enough for myself right now? Does he expect to pay? I do NOT want him thinking he needs to pay for me. That would be way too much to ask of him.
But why would he bring up the idea if it's not something I can reasonably do right now?

if he wants to go on vacation with you, start to plan that vacation and for me i think if he wants to then why not he is going to pay for it you know he is the men. but if he short of budget he must need to talk to you like for example. babe i'm think to have a vacation together can we share the expenses? is it ok with you? not to the point you are the one who will pay. and as you mention you are new to your job

He never said when. I think it's a good idea. You can both try saving every five dollar bill you get in the next year and look up travel deals. A friend of mine saved every five dollar bill she got for a year and she had well over a thousand dollars. My mom got a cheap (and wonderful) trip to New Orleans on a travel deal site. I travel a lot so you can ask me for travel tips and money saving ideas.

You're welcome. Look at places that underrated places to travel. They're cheaper and you're less likely to encounter tourists.

I think he's just throwing out the idea to get your thoughts - did he even mention a time frame? Just say it's not something you can afford right now but maybe you could set a goal for one sometime in the near future. If he says he'd pay decide how you feel about it then and go from there

He never said when (or at least you didn't mention it). So maybe he's just throwing the idea out there, and when you have enough money, you can both go on a vacation.
Either that, or he plans on paying for you. Just tell him that you can't afford a vacation right now, and see what he says.

Perhaps he'd like to treat you, but I'd talk to him about it and say that you can't really afford to go on a vacation right now, but maybe save up for one in the future?

Yeah, I have saving in mind obviously. But it was just so out of the blue and weird of him to even bring this up haha. I mean after 2 years, are you expected to travel together? haha

Maybe he wants to pay for you. I'm planning on taking my boyfriend on a mini trip even though I know he doesn't have enough money, but I want to do it so he can get away from awhile and have fun. Going on trips with your significant other is fun to do so he probably doesn't care if you can't afford it. He just want to go on a trip and wants you with him.
