Should I throw away everything my ex gave me?

It's been 3 years since we broke up, I'm completely over her, but I still keep all the stuff (Love letters, birthday card, polaroids, mix tape, a watch and a ring) she gave me inside a grey box.

I know I should throw them all away but a small part of me wants to keep them and cherish them for as long as I can because she was my first love and she was once a very special part of my life.

I'm planning on keeping just the letters and pictures and throw away the rest though.

You should really considering throwing everything away. You need to really ask yourself "Do I want my next love, the person that I am to spend the rest of my life with, reading these letters and looking at these pics?" Not for the sake of preventing an argument, or preventing her from leaving you, but for the sake of not giving her the memories of the relationship. If you keep the letters and the pictures, that is a good possibility. Obviously most adults realize that everyone has a past, but there is no need in creating a situation that will create specific images and "memories" for a future love. Memories that could potentially cause negative emotions.

You have your own memories of your past relationship, and nothing can throw those away. Again you should strongly consider hanging on to those and those alone.

Just do it already. Throw it away, shred it, burn it all. Get rid of all of them if it can help you heal and feel better and move on from the past and let it all go. Besides, you can't hang onto all of those things you accumulated anyway. You get me so far?

I wouldn't throw everything away. To be honest Im kind of a hoarder and will keep such memories in a box somewhere, just like I keep my tamagochi somewhere in a box and very rarely get back to it and enjoy the nostalgia and memories sometimes. 😂

Something like a watch I would still wear, definitely not putting that away.

Some people say that keeping mementoes means you're not actually as over her as you think... but i keep all the stuff my exes ever gave me. A) incase they want it back and b) they're like, video games and stuff so I'm not throwing it out. I threw away the letters and stuff though. Reading through them makes me cringe a lot.

Honestly it seems like such a waste to get rid of it all. Yeah you aren't together but it's a fucking gift and a memory.

I mean if you can't get over someone maybe I see why you do it, but for me I wouldn't.

Some people give as much of it back as possible, especially if it is a valuable item. This seems like it would be the most right, but I don't think it's a big deal because they did give it to you hopefully because they thought you deserved it as a person, and still might. So if you don't give it back to them, then you do whatever you want with it. It doesn't affect anyone else so do what makes you feel better.

Honestly i dont seee anything wrong with keeping this stuff. I think its sweet that your sentimental like that. Personally i keep the stuff people gave me even if its over because i like looking back at the stuff sometimes even if we dont talk its the memories that matter

Our past May not and cannot be edited. So, removing those mementos from your past is Unnecessary. As long as those mementos do not Affect your present Or future going forward.

I would keep a few things. Some of the more memorable items maybe and then throw away the others. I personally burnt what I had from an ex because things had taken a vicious turn.

You can if you like. If you need more storage space for example. Otherwise it's okay to keep things that used to be special to you even if they no longer are.

Its good to throw it all out but at the same time, some pictures are there to show what you went through in your life at that time. Not because of her.
