I'm married now, but when I was dating, I felt a whole lot better about things if we kept it equal... I didn't mind a guy treating me to a nice evening, but I usually reciprocated at a later date.

In some cases, it was monetary, in other cases, it was doing something like cooking a nice meal for him or baking something he really enjoyed.

@ciitruskiwi even if someone offers something for free you are still taking it. Now throw in that most guys pay for things because they feel it is culturally expected of them. You don’t know how he really feels- even when he says it’s no problem, because it’s expected of him. Anything less and as we see @asker will have a hissy fit. By benefiting from this cultural expectation, you are using him even if he says it’s ok. The only way to avoid this is to pay for your own shit equally.
Imagine that. A girl stepping up to offer the same as she accepts. It’s a crazy idea but that’s what equality is.
