Boyfriend takes my jokes too seriously and I feel like I always have to be careful with what I say?

So we’ve been together for almost 4 months. Everything is amazing tbh. We both can see each other marrying one another. It was love at first sight really. The only thing I’ve noticed is he takes himself and life way more seriously than I do. I’m way more... light/ “free spirited”/ I don’t take myself seriously. Or life too much. Of course when things are serious I am serious but on a day to day basis, I don’t let things get to me and I like to be playful.

That said, I’ve noticed that sometimes when I am it bothers my boyfriend to the point that, say if it’s late at night and we’re texting, he’ll be like well goodnight (coldly) or hell just respond with one word. If we are together he’ll act annoyed. When we first met he told me he thought I was so funny and he never found girls funny, now it’s like he hates 50% of when I’m being playful or joking. I’ve honestly never had a problem with people being bothered and I would notice, I’m receptive to that sort of thing.

It brings my mood down because when I am in a good mood and feel playful I’ll act like so and then he’ll just respond coldly and I’ll get sad. We both deal with depression, taking life and myself less seriously and using humor helps me cope. And now I’ve been finding myself more and more sad because I can’t be myself in that way because my jokes either 1) annoy him for no reason or 2) trigger him and he’ll take it literally and blow it way out.

What do I do?

Also I want to say I’m not like this a lot either but when I am it hurts me.
