Why is it so taboo to date or be attracted to a “step” family member?

This is an unpopular opinion but I don’t see anything wrong with dating a stepcousin, stepbrother, or stepsister. It’s not like you’re blood related. I understand the cons of it. It’s extremely awkward at family dinner’s and your parents are married. What do you think?

When this kind of attraction happens I think most people thing either A) there's some hanky-panky going on and it's unseemly, even though you're not blood relatives or B) there will certainly be hanky-panky taking place as soon as you get the chance, which they also find distasteful.
