Someone made a question about women not changing their last name during marriage, and I found it laughable that most of the men opposed it. The man's last name was traditionally given to the woman because the man was the head of the household. Why? Because the man paid the bills. So it was his house, and since she was joining his house, she took his last name. Nowadays (in addition to doing most of the housework and undergoing the pregnancies etc) women are expected to pay the bills equally, so it's no longer the man's house, so why should she be expected to take his last name? It seems to me that a lot of modern men want the benefits of being head of household, but not the responsibility.
