Is it wrong to tell someone you love them if you're not in love with them?

One time i really felt like i love this girl... so i told her... her reply was “no you dont”
then that got me questioning if I actually do,
so I searched up on google “how do u know if you love someone?”
n it told me “if you are thinking of them all the time and can't get them out of your mind you are in love”
and i admit i dont think of her all the time, maybe like twice a day for a few seconds.

so im obviously not “in love” with her, but I still feel like i love her a lot, by that i mean... jus the way she is... i love that about her... i think her personality is perfect and she is also very physically attractive in my opinion,
whenever she's around i always wanna be around or near her cos i jus love her company so much, its so sort of... comforting and homely around her... dunno how to explain what i mean...

anyway when i told her i love her i just meant i love her like how she is, and that is no lie, so why does she feel the need to tell me no i dont just cos im not in love with her?
why can't she jus take me loving for her for what it means... that i love her... i never told her “im in love with you” did i?
its like they assume the phrase “i love you” means “im in love with you”
why do they assume that? Cos thats not what it means
