I believe love (being in a relationship) is a huge part of anyone's development, but it's just a part. There are many important parts as well to be truly happy, like developing one's mind and body. A relationship alone won't be ableto make you happy if there are no other good parts in your life, and that's your responsability, not your partner's.

Some people trick themselves into thinking it does, because they cannot find happiness within themselves, but then again it depends on what you call happiness. What if you date for money and he gives you money, I guess you're happy then. Some of us get nothing from dating, because we don't find people to give what we're looking for. So there is that.
