Have you ever cheated on a partner?

Most people have firm beliefs about how often people cheat and which sex cheats more often but I think those opinions are usually based solely on their personal experiences. So let's do a poll on this subject.

I will define cheating as engaging in any behavior which is reasonably calculated to lead to the advancement of a romantic or sexual interest. Holding hands with or kissing someone else is cheating. Meeting them for a romantic dinner is cheating. If it is something that you must hide from your partner and it involves dating/courtship behaviors, it is cheating.

Cheating involves violating a promise or a clearly understood expectation of your partner. If you are married, separate and file for divorce, and then get involved with someone else, that is NOT cheating. If you know that your boyfriend/girlfriend expects that you are going to be monogamous and you are flirting with and kissing the new receptionist at work, then that is cheating.

So. . . have you ever - even just once in your life - been unfaithful to or cheated on a partner?

I treat my partner the way I expect to be treated. If I don't cheat, I expect them to be faithful to me too. If they cheat on me, I would like to think that what they are really saying is "its okay if my partner did this too" but it's never like that. Cheating partners often would get pissed if their partners cheated on them. It's double standards. I HATE that. People who cheat are selfish, insecure and unstable people and there is NEVER a valid reason to cheat on someone. I also dislike that a majority of cheating partners never get caught. If you're truly unhappy in a relationship or hate the person you're with, why sink to their level? If you find yourself to be easy to tempt why be committed to someone? Nobody is forcing you to stick around. I know sometimes it's easier said than done, but hurting someone's feelings is never okay. It's better to break up while your partner seems like the bad guy, than to cheat and to be caught and the whole world looks down on you. Long story short, I have not cheated and I refuse to.

I am very happy to have gone my whole life as a faithful partner to all guys I've dated, including the ones who didn't deserve it.

I've always known right from wrong, but when I was a young girl I experienced how hurtful cheating was at home when my dad did it to my mom. Being the daughter, and not one who was actively in the relationship as a partner, made me see how awful it was to make me never want to be that person to anyone. I lived with the hurt watching my mom suffer with so much sadness. I also was amazed by her strength when she took him back and I saw the change in my dad that has been for the better since then.

First chick I attempted to date. She was a 18 and I surmised that she had a body count of over 32 .

Never cheated. I didn't even dance with a guy at social events where everyone was grabbing a date and my friends were trying to join me up with some guy. I once had someone trying to pull me up from the chair to dance and I literally yelled and begged her to stop. This was my situation even after my boyfriend said it's fine as long as my dance partner doesn't touch me inappropriately but I still didn't do it just because it felt so wrong in my own head!

I did platonically shake hands and give brief hugs though, that wasn't a big deal to me.

I have unfortunately been unfaithful to my partner in my past. I'm without any argument guilty of going to the fullest in my endeavors. I had multiple extramarital incidents. I eventually admitted to my transgressions to my then wife only because she was convinced that it was true but was confronting numerous women who were not among the those that had been with me. I refused to name names because it would serve no purpose. I don't recommend this direction of behavior as we as I don't recommend getting married at the tender age of 21.

I realize that for some people it’s not that easy so I try not to criticize them for having that desire, but if you’re unhappy with your partner then you should talk to them instead of being devious behind their back.

I was cheated on once that I know of by a girlfriend when I was 19-20, but it wasn't traumatizing by any means.

Yes I have cheated on my serious girlfriend on a couple of occassions in a span of 2 - 3 years. I was distracted I guess.

I’ve never been unfaithful to anyone. I’ve also never stayed with someone if fallen out of love with, although I have tried to make it work before I left.
