When you're upset do you prefer comfort or solutions?

I like a sort of combination of comfort and solutions. I like it when the person gets upset with me, takes my side, and helps me reach a (reactive) solution. At those times, the last thing I want to hear is how I'm wrong, I should/shouldn't have done this or that, I should take this as a learning experience for the future, etc. I can reach proactive solutions on my own when I'm in a better mood.

It depends on the scenario. I always try to say "help me solve this" or "I've just been feeling terrible about this"

As a way to kind clue them in on wether I want to be comforted or if I want ideas on how to solve it.

Potentially both. I'm not used to comfort.

both have a psychological component it's worth nothing. Suggested solutions convey "I have confidence in you". Comfort suggests "I care about you".

It depends what I'm upset about, but I say I would generally prefer a solution. Unless it's something I can't do anything about like a loss. Then it's nice to have someone to talk to.
