Why is he afraid that he might hurt me?

He told me that if he didn’t know my brother, he would ask me out but he doesn’t want to because he thinks my brother won’t like it.

He also said he’s afraid he might hurt me but wouldn’t explain why he thinks that. I have a feeling he might have cheating or abusive tendencies but he’s been respectful to me and other women and he said he doesn’t put his hands on women but I could just be paranoid because I don’t ever wanna experience that. What other reasons could it be that he doesn’t wanna hurt me in any way?

If he knows how to treat women then he has nothing to worry about unless he’s afraid of losing me or I end up hurting him by accident or something.

I think your on the right track.
He got respect for your brother and they're friendship.

And he is also scared getting involved because sometimes things don't work and he don't wanna see you hurt.

Maybe If you tell your brother your interested and ask how he would feel above it. Then i might be easier for ur crush to make a move.
