Is it dangerous to date an ex addict?

The guy I’m seeing was released from prison one year ago, and used to be heavily addicted to drugs, Herion was his addiction 9 years ago, ended up in prison for 3 years got out then ended up back there later on that year for another 5 years, at this point he was using pain killers that he was addicted to.
and i don’t want to judge him and he’s a personal trainer now and a great person and he treats me right and even reassures my mom that he will always treat me well but I’m worried and really do have my wits about me...

Uhm yes. Seriously, out of all the billions of men in the world you pick a drug addict who’s been to prison for several years multiple times? Does that sound like a good choice? You need to set your standards higher. Treat you right? Yeah that should be the absolute minimum for a date/boyfriend. Jesus. There are lots of guys who’ll treat you right but aren’t addicted to f-ing heroin and is an ex-con! You don’t want to judge... Yeah how noble of you. Remember that when he relapses when you already have a kid. Tell your kid you didn’t want to judge when they ask why you picked a junkie to be their father. Also remember that when that same child becomes an addict themselves when they grow up - addictive behavior tends to run in families.

As long as he's not abusive, i think it's not dangerous. Let's hope he won't take a drugs again cuz from your story he seems like can't take it off

Whenever dating an ex con, you are at more risk than with the average guy. That said, some of these guys really learned their lesson, and have turned around. The key is to watch for inappropriate behavior, or him trying to manipulate you or control you, and watch for honesty. Take extra time getting to now him, and getting to really trust him.
