Ask yourself what might have preceded this ghosting. Did you say or do something he'd see as insensitive or inappropriate? If so, acknowledge your action and apologize.

Let him know, if he has an issue, you're open to addressing it with him, but, if his pattern is to just bury problems, you're glad to discover it now rather than 20 years from now. If this is his pattern, it's his loss, not yours.

It's not okay to do that. but we don't have enough context. Did you use to escalate things and fight a lot with him or get violent when he brought up the subject of breaking up with you? Only then would his action be understood, it would not be justified but it would be understood.
